It’s all about Artistry Inspiring Change for the group’s 20th anniversary

Known for their mesmerising drum concerts, HANDS percussion is easily one of Malaysia’s most renowned performance ensembles, thrilling audiences all over the world with their unique twist on a traditional Malaysian art form.

The past few years saw the talented group perform in numerous art festivals in France, Netherlands, Greece and China to name a few.

This year proves to be even more exciting, as HANDS Percussion celebrates their 20th anniversary.

Besides welcoming a new patron in Tunku Zain Al-‘Abidin ibni Tuanku Muhriz, a nationwide tour, two full-length original shows and a special segment for this year’s Kuala Lumpur Arts Festival, DiverseCity, are just some of the things to look forward to.

The team behind the acclaimed HANDS PERCUSSION ensemble

Kicking things off in April 2017, HANDS Percussion will be visiting Johor Bahru, Ipoh, Penang and Kuantan, where they will be performing eighty minute programmes featuring their most well-known pieces, including Classic, Rhythm Ride In the Name of Celebration, Drumbeat Inferno and Bare Hands Dance.

Next, the group will be premiering the Winds of Nomads concert, which is the culmination of a three year project between HANDS and West African percussion team called Dafra Drums. Then, September will bring the arrival of the Deafbeat 10th Anniversery Concert, another HANDS production featuring eight hearing impaired youths. This will be followed up with a special segment in this year’s DiverseCity festival called Percussion Paradise, which will feature Scandinavia’s top percussion player Tan Su Yin and costumes by acclaimed fashion designer Moto Guo.

Besides this, HANDS will also be revamping a new website and publishing a 20th anniversary book, documenting all of their milestones and successes thus far.
