Grab a drink at some of KL's hottest bars

Whether it’s a sophisticated bar, an underground tavern or a gastro-pub you’re looking for, Kuala Lumpur’s nightlife scene is flourishing. A decade ago finding a joint that offered something a little different was a rare feat. Nowadays, these hidden gems are all throughout the capital offering exceptional experiences, both in ambience and libation.

Housed in a pre-war shoplot along a back alley in Petaling Street, this cosy bar is divided into three seating areas that highlight distinct eras in the history of Indochina and cocktails. Far Eastern accents liven up the interior and intimate booths are available for those who desire privacy.

The cocktails at PS150 come courtesy of Angel Ng, who draws on Southeast Asian flavours to craft her beverages. A wide array of spirits and liqueurs are also available, from obscure vermouths to local ginger wines.

Frisky Rooftop Bar

Cinephiles will feel right at home at Frisky Rooftop Bar where ‘Magic in the Moonlight’ every Thursday features outdoor screenings of mainly independent films. Just plunk yourself on a plush lounge-chair and take in a motion picture with the Twin Towers as the background.

It’s not all about the silver screen though as the music policy here is strictly deep and techy non-commercial beats with international DJs occupying the decks on a regular basis. This, coupled with panoramic views and fast and friendly service, make Frisky a must visit!

Nomi Tomo Sake Bar

If sake is your drink of choice then Nomi Tomo is your izakaya (a type of Japanese gastropub). This sake sanctuary proffers a vast collection of bottles, many of which line the walls along with descriptions indicating sweetness, dryness, and richness.

Minimalist décor with warm bamboo finishings keep the atmosphere cosy and the focus on the menu. You’ll also find an interesting selection of skewers, from beef with togarashi spices to juicy salmon wrapped in bacon here – each served sizzling and smoky and of course perfectly paired with sake.
